Welcome to the new website for 80’s Rail.
Many visitors may remember the old Fotopic site that has now disappeared from the web. Those pictures previously featured are now all uploaded onto this new, Zenfolio hosted, website. I hope that you like the new format and navigation presentation. Your comments, via the guestbook page, will always be very welcome.
My photographs were taken between 1984 and 1989 (although some outside of this time span will be included), recording the everyday operations of the British Rail system. If it had anything to do with the railway - motive power, rolling stock, depots or whatever - it was recorded on film. My collection consists of over 35,000 photographs (mainly black & white).
Equipment: the majority of the black & white pictures were taken on Kodak Tri-X, using a Bronica ETR-S 6x4.5cm SLR camera. Colour pictures were taken on Kodak Ektachrome using a Nikon FE 35mm SLR. All processing was carried out by myself.
Scanning: currently an Epson V600 scanner (previously a Perfection 4180 and V500), either from existing prints (eventually to be replaced) or directly from film and edited using Photoshop Elements 7.0. The medium format scans are at 1200dpi (original target size) and are edited to approx. 250kb in size.
To help fund the new site, you can now purchase copies of the pictures as downloadable digital scans, for your own personal use (not to be passed on to third parties). Should you require any photograph for publication, please contact me to discuss further (please note that any photograph reproduced without permission will carry a x10 penalty fee).
I am also very interested in preserving archive railway photographs, so if you have (or know someone who has) a collection for disposal, then please contact me.
Many thanks for visiting the site and I hope you enjoy the nostalgia trip!
